THE BREAKTHROUGH SUMMER PROGRAM
Each summer in middle school, Breakthrough students spend six weeks taking challenging academic enrichment classes. The goal is to have fun learning new things while honing the skills necessary to succeed in honors or challenge courses during the school year.
Summer Program Highlights
- Challenging and fun classes in math, English, science, and social studies. Read past course descriptions.
- Additional electives in subjects like African Dance, Photoshop, Debate, Improv, and many more. Read past course descriptions
- Teachers who are all college and high school students, trained and supported by professional educators
- Two hours of homework (BooYah!) every weeknight.
- Daily opportunities to share your talents and gain public speaking skills at All School Meeting
- Daily activities like basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, board games in YO Time
- Fun Friday afternoon activities like Predator Prey and College Bowl each week
- Field trips to places like the Minnesota State Capitol, YMCA Swimming Pool, and the University of Minnesota
Summer Daily Schedule
It is important to note that the summer program usually starts 7:30 a.m. and goes until 2:30 p.m. followed by two hours of homework for students. If you apply, be prepared for this challenging routine.
