Because it is an opportunity unlike any other available to high school and college students, the Breakthrough teaching internship is VERY competitive. For summer 2007, over 150 students applied for 17 positions.
The application process is purposefully very rigorous. It is modeled after the internship experience itself, and it places teachers in several circumstances they will encounter during the summer or school year. To do well, a candidate must present themselves effectively in multiple settings.
