MEET OUR 2007 PROFESSIONAL MENTORS
When you work at Breakthrough, you design and teach your own class in math, English, science, or social studies plus additional arts or communications electives. But you do not do it alone. You will be fully supported by a professional educator who will read lesson plans, provide resources, observe classes, and give ongoing feedback.
My name is Jodi Goodnow. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Middle School Education, emphasizing math and science. I later earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from St. Thomas University. I have taught at Hazel Park Academy for 18 years. In my spare time I enjoy being with my family, camping, golfing, reading, and doing puzzles. I am very excited to be a part of Breakthrough Saint Paul. The energy and spirit are very inspiring and a constant reminder of why I love teaching.
I am Melissa Haugen, a Highland Park graduate and a product of SPPS. In 2000 I graduated from Bethel University in Secondary Science Education, and in 2004 I earned my Masters of Education from Hamline University, with an emphasis in Urban Education. I have taught at Hazel Park Academy for seven years. This fall, I'm returning to my alma mater as a science teacher. Outside of teaching, I am training for my first triathlon and learning to ride a unicycle with some BSP students. I am excited to be around the high energy BSP students and staff. I wish all schools could run like Breakthrough!
My name is Kristin King. I grew up in a family of teachers in South Minneapolis. I graduated from Ripon College in Ripon, WI with a B.A. in English and Art. After college, I worked in a variety of school settings while obtaining an M.A. in Education at the University of St. Thomas. I then began teaching English at Battle Creek Middle School where I have been for four years. This is my first summer with Breakthrough ... a very invigorating experience. Learning is truly happening in all directions here.
My name is Jeff Rahman, and I’m originally from the small town of Cannon Falls, MN. I now live in St. Paul, where I’ve been teaching for six years. I teach World Geography, Pre-AP U.S. History and Pre-AP World Geography at Hazel Park Academy. When I'm not in the classroom, you’ll likely find me relaxing, spending time with my wife, friends and family, or doing something related to sports. I also enjoy music, movies, art, books and traveling. Some of my favorite places include: Brazil, France and Italy. I am excited to be working with the Breakthrough Social Studies teachers this summer! It is truly inspiring to be around such motivated, engaging, energetic, and talented teachers.
